Read Around the World

Our Signature Project

All children need to understand the joy of reading.

The first step is reading to them.

The second is to give them books they can treasure and read again and again

The Brockport Kiwanis Club and has long been dedicated to the Kiwanis International Read Around the World program.  We had our first Bookmark Contest and Celebration Ice Cream Social in 2008. The program focuses on sharing the joy of books with young children—from reading with them to providing books they can have of their very own.

We sponsor a Bookmark contest each year; kids in Kindergarten through Third Grade will create themed bookmarks. Local and area appointed and elected officials will determine winners in two grade categories.

A Bookmark Contest celebration is held at the Seymour Library in the Spring.  We will have three distinguished Readers, each reading a book to those assembled for the event. We are likely to be visited by Brock, our local Canine Cop. Each participant receives an age appropriate soft bound book. Bookmark contest winners each received a hard bound book selected especially for them.  They also received a packet of professionally printed copies of the bookmark they designed.  The crowd will then adjourn for an ice cream social.
