The Smoke Barry Award of $500 is awarded in the Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES Automotive program to recognize an outstanding Brockport student in the Automotive Repair Program who has demonstrated commitment and potential for excellence exemplifying leadership, scholarship and service.
Smoke Barry was a Kiwanis member in Brockport during the 1960’s. You may remember him through his car dealership – Barry Dodge. Our Kiwanis club raises funds for the John ‘Smoke’ Barry Award through various fundraisers all year long. The awardee is selected by the BOCES staff in Spencerport.
Brockport High School Key Club George Mann Leadership Scholarship
The George Mann Leadership Scholarship, valued at $2,000 is awarded to recognize an outstanding student in the High School Key Club who has demonstrated commitment and potential for excellence exemplifying leadership, scholarship and service. The Scholarship may go to one BHS Senior, or will be split between two Seniors that are equally qualified.
George Mann was a 52-year member of the Brockport Kiwanis Club. George was a member of the Brockport High School Key Club and attended the Key Club’s 6th annual convention Washington D.C. in 1949. George was a long-time leader in our community.
Our Kiwanis Club will interview Applicants for the scholarship, and make their studied selection during March so that the scholarship can be awarded at the BHS Awards Night prior to the annual graduation exercise.
Our Kiwanis club raises funds for this Key Club college scholarship every year through our food booth at the Brockport Arts Festival. Come to the festival, the 2nd weekend in August every year, and find us in the food court for the best Zweigles Hots and hamburgers!
